Lazy Tuesday

I haven't had a day that isn't stuffed full of classes and going to the office in quite a while. Today I have been trying to unpack and get some homework done. Took a nice long Trader Joe's trip too. My roommate and I are trying a new-to-us Pho place in our neighborhood for dinner.

Today is one of those days when you really love DC. Fall here is amazing, it lasts for weeks and the colors are breathtaking. It makes me love academia, tweed, scarves and red wine.

As you can see, I moved! This is my new kitchen. I finally moved into the district, I am living with four friends. It's been an adjustment, but now I am starting to understand why people love this city. (It's a city for nerds, more thoughts on that later.)

Happy Hour

I met some girl friends for happy hour at Tabaq on U street, they have some pretty good happy hour deals. I think I was feeling a little "new mexico" with this outfit, that's where I am from and sometimes I go a little over board with the western style!

Night Out

I haven't seen many of my friends from business school this summer, alot of people are out of town for internships and I have been traveling. A B-school friend had a birthday party in Dupont, and I got to catch up with friends I haven't seen in awhile. It was a fun night of catching up!

Trying Again

I started this blog at the end of last summer when I was going back to school for a Masters. That was a bad decision, my first year was made up of not sleeping, basically moving into the case rooms at school, and not putting any effort into the way I looked. My friend has a great blog, http://loveatfirstshop.blogspot.com/ and she inspired me to try and start again!

My friends and I went to a dive bar in college park (it is actually connected to a liquor store) and this is what I wore.
Shorts- Forever 21
Shoes- Steve Madden
Top- Nordstrom (I forgot what brand)
Necklace-American Eagle

Has anyone been in American Eagle lately? I hadn't been in there since I was about 17, but now that I am on a student budget again I popped in. They have some pretty great cotton basics, and some cute costume jewelry.

My Cousin's Wedding!

My cousin got hitched! It was a beautiful outside ceremony under a white arbor and trees covered in Spanish moss about a stone's throw from the beach. His wife, Sarah, wanted to have a simple ceremony and reception and it came together very elegantly.

Here's me, front and center, very sunburned. Nothing was hurt but my pride though. I love this dress, it was originally my graduation dress a few years ago and has served me well for a couple different occasions. It makes me feel like a combination of a cupcake and a present.
Dress: Betsey Johnson
Shoes: Jack Rogers
Jewelry: Pearls, David Yurman bracelet, and the diamond ring my mother gave me

My uncle looked quite dapper so I decided to add him. His shorts are linen, and his tie is seersucker. I love his bucks! Somehow how I forgot to take pictures of my cousins, one wore a chiffon Robert Rodriguez dress, the other wore BCBG. They looked great.

The reception was airy and graceful, and little ethereal. When you walked in you could see the ocean in the distance.

The wedding party! I love how colorful they look, it was very joyful and lighthearted. It was a nice change from stuffy tuxes and unflattering dresses.

I love this picture. Right after the ceremony the bridal party headed off for pictures, my cousin was carrying Sarah's train for her so it didn't get dirty.

The cake! I am a dessert fanatic, and this cake was delicious. It had some ribbons of lemon in it that were nice and tart and set off the sugar perfectly. I like the little nubbins that look like peals on the outside.

Trip to Jekyll Island, Georgia

My cousin got married this past weekend in Jekyll Island, Georgia. It was beautiful, I've never been there before. (Pretty hot and buggy though!) This was my travel outfit that I flew in. The skirt is insanely comfortable, and easy to wear with something else on the way home to avoid packing more clothes. I like that it's high-waisted.

Top: Gap

Skirt: Anthropologie

Purse: Kate Spade

Shoes: Steve Madden

This is the hotel where we stayed, it is amazing! Off to the left is the ocean, we could see if from our room. Years ago, rich members of the Jekyll Island Club owned cottages on the grounds. Now the hotel owns them, and they are rented out for events. My cousin's rehearsal luncheon was in one of them.

On the beach! I love swimsuits, I own and entire drawer full. My excuse is that I was a sailing instructor in the past, but really I own too many to justify.

Swimsuit: Betsey Johnson
Sunglasses: Ray Bans

The beach was breath taking, here is one of my best pictures.

Going Away Dinner

I am moving to Maryland from Colorado next week, and my friends took me to a going away dinner last night.

The location was a surprise, but I somehow guessed it. We went to My Brother's Bar. It's a Denver mainstay, been around for years. They serve burgers and beer, but unlike other places they have no TVs and play classical music. There is no sign outside, you just have to know where you are going.

My clothes are mostly packed away in boxes, but I left one outfit out just in case. I'm glad I did! I love this dress, even though it is French Connection I think it has a Spanish feel to it. (I am still not used to posing in pictures by myself, hence the uncomfortable smile.)
Dress: French Connection
Shoes: Jack Rogers
Earrings: Gift
Necklace: I don't remember...
Bangles: Mixture of places, mostly from Indian street vendors in New Mexico
Ring: Bought at the Indian Arts Festival in Santa Fe

Here is a closer picture of my jewelry. It's a little hard to see, but the hoops have a pretty etching on them.
